  1. This is something of a newbie question; please read no further if
  2. those things offend you...

  4. Running Windows under NetWare with the Clarkson packet drivers I am
  5. able to run a telnet session from Boston College's bcgopher but not
  6. from HGopher or Mosaic. I understand that without ODI or a separate
  7. stack I cannot run more than a single socket (if that's the
  8. correct term), but I'm surprised that bcgopher is able to hand 
  9. things of to telnet.

  11. My error message with HGopher and Mosaic includes "gethostbyname
  12. failed" which, I assume, is the system's way of saying that the
  13. single socket is not available.
  14.  
  15. So my question is, how come bcgopher can do it when HGopher and
  16. Mosaic cannot?
